My BFF SSE

You will soon learn that much of this site is a Spaceship Earth stan account, thinly veiled as a travel/photo blog otherwise focused on Disney.

This particular image of SSE was taken during my March 2022 trip, and my first attempt at really trying to capture the new (ish) spires centered in front of SSE. While in hind sight I am a bit annoyed at myself for not noticing the tree branches encroaching on the left (in every single frame I took that day), the symmetry of this shot makes my heart happy.

Many of the photos you see out there of the same subject and background get right up under the base of the spires and the fountain they sit on, creating a composition of mostly spires as the focus and SSE merely a backdrop. I wanted to show the same subject, just as prominently, but not ignoring the fact that SSE is really the star here (and always will be). Though miniaturized in some way by the angle, the spires are framed by the supports of the SSE structure and almost mimic the support’s form and perspective, so still remain the subject.

The weather in March was not great, at least not the day this shot was taken. In the original, the sky was almost the same tone as everything else in the frame. As a result, I did temp the sky a bit cooler so it contrasted better and framed SSE. Otherwise, there were not a ton of tweaks to this shot. SSE be like that…just a natural beauty. ;)
